On March 19, 2004, after years of police harassment, Paul Reubens reached a plea agreement with Los Angeles prosectors: guilty to a misdemeanor obscenity charge. A statement released by Reubens shows him weary but unrepentant: "Taking responsibility by calling a few images in this collection 'obscene' and paying a $100 fine seemed like the sanest way to make it end".

However, it's far worse than a mere $100 fine. Under the terms of the agreement, Reubens is under probation for three years, and is required to avoid contact with minors, or with anyone remotely associated with the case (smells like an excuse for further harassment). He will be required undergo counseling for a year (for what??). Not all of his seized collection of erotica is being returned to him: materials "involving sex" will be destroyed (if they're not illegal, why not just return them to Reubens??). Worst of all, he must register as a sex offender, a truly unfair punishment considering Reubens committed no sex offense.

Strangely, this is all more or less the same sentence that Jeffrey Jones received (he received five years probation), even though he pled no contest to child pornography possession. Why is Reubens receiving such a stiff sentence when his own child pornography charge was dropped??

Reubens' lawyer Blair Berk intends to continue fighting all this in state appellate court on free speech and illegal search and seizure grounds.

backstory:

On Friday, November 15, 2002, after a year-long investigation, the Los Angeles Police Department charged Paul Reubens with one misdemeanor count of possessing materials depicting children under the age of 18 engaged in sexual conduct. Reubens turned himself in, was booked, and then released on $20,000 bail. Also charged was Jeffrey Jones (of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Beetlejuice and Ed Wood fame).

On Friday, November 16, 2001, the LAPD searched Reubens' home, confiscating much of the actor's belongings, including his coveted collection of pornography. Reubens cooperated fully and was not present in his residence during the search.

The original story as reported by the National Enquirer was that a 15-year-old boy complained to the LAPD that he had been regularly having sex with Reubens and Jones, but that it was increasingly getting weird and kinky and he was afraid what might happen to him if their relationship continued, and therefore felt it necessary to turn them into the police. This preposterous story has now been downgraded to an accusation that Jones paid the boy to pose nude for photography.

Reubens was also arrested on July 26, 1991, for alleged indecent exposure and masturbation at a porno movie theater in Sarasota, Fla. He entered a no-contest plea and was sentenced to 75 hours of community service. Like Jim Garrison said of Lee Harvey Oswald's similar arrest in a theater, "this has to be the biggest case of police intuition since the Reichstag fire, and I for one don't buy it". Someone knew Pee-wee was in that theater, and intended to bust him. It was no accident, no coincidence. No one ever gets busted for masturbating in the dark in porno theaters, how did they pick Pee-wee?

We believe in the existence of an organized plot which is by definition a conspiracy to deprive Paul Reubens of his rights, his livelihood, his happiness. In a world where Hugh Grant and Eddie Murphy's careers not only aren't destroyed, but actually IMPROVE, after being caught engaging in public sex with prostitutes, it seems unfathomable that Pee-wee's career could have been so damaged by the theater incident, unless a fix was in. It is our intent to research the who, how, and why of these events, and to discover who benefits from keeping Pee-wee's career down.
